Strongman Training
What is strongman?
Strongman consists of a style of training that emphasizes strength, speed and conditioning.
Generally, every competition has 5 events: overhead press, deadlift, two carries and load. Each event can either be for max weight lifted, maximum repetitions completed within a certain time frame, or circuit completed in the fastest time.
You can expect that each competition may have some similarities, but no two competitions are the exact same. However, anyone can participate.
You don’t have to be 6’ 6” and over 400lbs to be successful. Anyone is capable of training and competing. Many local competitions have novice classes as well as weight-based classes, in which you have to be under a certain body weight.
Why strongman training?
We’ve been involved in strongman for over 6 years at the local and national level. Throughout our approach we’ve noticed that many members develop better shoulder mobility, independence picking heavy boxes off the floor and putting them on the top shelf, and keeping up with their kids or tackling the 14er that they’ve been hoping to complete. Everyone is capable of utilizing the main movement to improve overall fitness.
Strongman has caught the eye of many due to the fact that not every lift is the same nor is each lift’s focus the same.
For example, a deadlift event may be on a regular bar for maximum weight lifted one competition and then you might be deadlifting a car in the next for as many repetitions as possible. This variability keeps things interesting for someone looking to mix up their routine. We’ve also discovered that the variability involved in strongman allows for our members to develop a wider range of skills and capabilities.
Why come here for strongman?
We are one of the few strongman equipped gyms in the greater Denver area, and the only Strongman Training facility in Littleton, Colorado. We also put an emphasis on our coaching and cleanliness of the facility. We can work with anyone; whether you’re prepping for a competition, taking time off to build yourself up, or just looking to get your hands on some of the equipment.
We understand that sometimes the barrier to entry for a local competition may be pretty high, but we’ve created our own solution.
In addition to our personalized programming approach, we host two competitions each year. Our approach is weight neutral, meaning that we divide our divisions by the weights lifted and allow the athletes choose which division they feel they are capable of yet challenging.
