What is Powerlifting?

Powerlifting tests three movements, squat, bench press, and deadlift, for maximum weight lifted once. Whether you’re just focusing on bringing up these main movements for fun or to display your strength on powerlifting stage, centering these movements around your training sessions is a great way to increase your overall strength.

How to Start Powerlifting

Start simple. Your gym should have barbells and various weight plates. There is no need to get too wrapped up with using powerlifting-specific barbells, plates, or equipment. The main objective for you is to get used to the squat, bench, and deadlift. Keep track of your progress over time to see what has worked and what hasn’t worked. A great approach would be the classic 5x5 program; 5 sets, 5 reps on the main lifts, including shoulder press and bent over row.
